Transformer house (transformer tower)

The transformer house is in the Baum district in Mönchengladbach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), Genhollander Heide.

The transformer tower was built in the 1920s. It was entered under No. B 168 on January 10, 2005 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .

architecture

The transformer tower is located in Mönchengladbach-Baum on the road from Hilderath to Genholland . The switch house was built in the form of a slim transformer tower on an approximately square floor plan from relatively light-fired brick masonry. The entrance is on the ground floor on the northeast side facing the dirt road . Further wall openings are located on the southeast side of the building.

In terms of design, the sturdy concrete slab of the flat roof corresponds to an only slightly protruding base zone . The sharp-edged, symmetrical design of the shaft was originally additionally emphasized by the execution of the circumferential gutter in a box shape. In the area of the tower head, four, only slightly protruding brick strips run around the building . Originally, the overhead lines were connected here via insulators . With the restrained use of formal design elements, the brick strips give the lead-in zone of the overhead lines a sparingly indicated, but safe, architecturally accentuated setting.

A brick roll layer is arranged directly below the concrete slab at the upper edge and at the lower edge of the discharge zone without protruding from the wall. Further rolling layers accentuate the upper edge of the plinth and the door / window lintels.
