The Transition Glacier ( English for transition glacier is) a 13 km long and 3 km wide glacier on the east coast Alexander Island west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It flows along the north flank of Block Mountain and Tilt Rock in an easterly direction to George VI Sound .
Aerial photos taken by the American polar explorer Lincoln Ellsworth on his Antarctic flight on November 23, 1935 were used by the American cartographer WLG Joerg for mapping. The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out a survey in 1949 and named the glacier. It is named after the fact that the glacier marks the transition from the northern eruptive to the southern sedimentary rock .
