The Trapp Family Austrian Relief Inc. is an initiative of the Trapp family in which around 150 tons of relief supplies were brought to Austria .

In January 1947, Maj. General Harry J. Collins reached out to the Trapp family in the United States. The US officer had come to Salzburg with the famous 42nd Rainbow Division and described the plight of the Austrians after the Second World War. The Trapp family reacted spontaneously and founded the Trapp Family Austrian Relief Inc. as a registered association of Austria Aid based in Stowe , Vermont . Georg von Trapp was registered as the founder and 1st President, Maria von Trapp was President and Franz Wasner was the Treasurer .

“The country that gave the world a Haydn , Mozart , Schubert and Silent Night will perish if we don't all help together. Everyone knows about the conditions in the larger European countries, but hardly anyone suspects what is going on in Austria, where the population is almost losing courage and hope. "
