Trappist-1 f , also known as 2MASS J23062928-0502285 f , is an exoplanet orbiting the dwarf star Trappist-1 in the habitable zone . It is located about 39 light years (12 parsecs ) from Earth in the constellation Aquarius .
Planet in the Trappist 1 system
Trappist-1f is the fifth of seven planets in its solar system, counted from its star . It is one of the four planets around Trappist-1 that were found with the Spitzer Space Telescope using the transit method . Presumably all planets of the Trappist-1 system orbit the dwarf star in a bound rotation , that is, one side of the planets is continuously illuminated by the star (perpetual day, warm) and one side never (perpetual night, cold), in between there is an annular one Medium temperature zone.
Trappist-1 f orbits its star with an orbit duration of about 9.206 days and an orbit radius of about 0.037 that of the earth's orbit.
properties
Trappist-1f is an earth-like planet . While its radius of 1.045 earth radii is almost identical to that of the earth, its mass is only 0.68 earth masses . Thus it has a lower density than the earth, only 3.3 ± 0.9 g / cm³, and a surface acceleration of about 6.1 m / s² (62% of the value of the earth). Its calculated equilibrium temperature is 219 K (−54 ° C).
Based on these properties, it is speculated that Trappist-1f may be an ocean world with an ice crust on the side facing away from the sun .
Habitability
The exoplanet orbits the star either inside or just outside the habitable zone. This means that under certain suitable conditions and atmospheric properties, liquid water could exist on the surface of the planet. It has an Earth Similarity Index of 0.68.
So far nothing is known about the chemical composition and possible atmosphere of the planet.
