Jarabacoa Trappist Monastery

The Trappist Jarabacoa (lat. Monasterium Beatae Mariae de Evangelio . Span Monasterio Cisterciense Santa María del Evangelio ) since 1989, a Trappist - monastery in Jarabacoa , Province of La Vega , in the Dominican Republic .

history

The Spanish abbey of Santa María de Viaceli accepted an invitation from Bishop Juan Antonio Flores Santana of La Vega and founded the male monastery of Santa María del Evangelio (Mary of the Good News) in 1989 six km southeast of Jarabacoa , the buildings of which had to be built by the monks (completion 1996). In 2006 the monastery was elevated to a simple priory .
