Juan Antonio Flores Santana (born July 3, 1927 in Bocas de Licey-Tamboril , † November 9, 2014 in Santiago de los Caballeros ) was Archbishop of Santiago de los Caballeros .

Life

Juan Antonio Flores Santana, from a family with ten children, entered the Jesuit-led Minor Seminary (Seminario Menor Padre Fantino Falco) in Santo Cerro at the age of 14. From 1947 he studied philosophy and theology at the Thomas von Aquin seminary in Santo Domingo. He studied dogmatics at the Comillas Pontifical University in Santander, Spain. In Santander, he was ordained a deacon on December 21, 1952 and received there also on July 12 in 1953 by Pablo Gurpide Beope the priesthood . The Archbishop of Santo Domingo, Octavio Antonio Beras , made it possible for him to study in utroque iure (Doctor of Both Rights, Doctor iuris utriusque, Dr. iur. Utr.) At the Roman Lateran University in 1954, which he completed in 1958 at Comillas. At the same time he was involved in the diocese of Santiago de los Caballeros as Pro-Chancellor, head of the ecclesiastical court and in pastoral care. From 1958 he was chancellor of the diocese, president and judge of the ecclesiastical court and in pastoral care in Pueblo Nuevo, Santiago de los Caballeros. From 1963 to 1966 he was head of the Minor Seminary of St. Pius X and pastor of Licey al Medio. In 1962 he became professor and vice-president at the Pontifical Catholic University "Mater et Magistra" in Santiago de los Caballeros

Pope Paul VI appointed him bishop of La Vega on April 24, 1966 . The auxiliary bishop in Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia en Higüey , Hugo Eduardo Polanco Brito , gave him episcopal ordination on June 12 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Tomás Francisco Reilly CSsR , Prelate of San Juan de la Maguana , and Juan Félix Pepén y Soliman , Bishop of Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia en Higüey .

On July 13, 1992, he was appointed Bishop of Santiago de los Caballeros by Pope John Paul II . With the elevation to the archbishopric on February 14, 1994 he was appointed the first archbishop of Santiago de los Caballeros. On July 16, 2003, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
