The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Juan de la Maguana ( lat. : Dioecesis Sancti Ioannis Maguanensis , span. : Diócesis de San Juan de la Maguana ) is in the Dominican Republic situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in San Juan de la Maguana .
history
The diocese was founded on September 25, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. with the papal bull Si magna et excelsa from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo established as the territorial prelature of San Juan de la Maguana . The territorial prelature of San Juan de la Maguana was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo as a suffragan .
On November 19, 1969, the territorial prelature of San Juan de la Maguana by Pope Paul VI. raised to the diocese with the papal bull Summopere laetantes . The diocese of San Juan de la Maguana gave on April 24, 1976 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Barahona .
