Myrendal Trappist Monastery
The monastery Myrendal , official name: Myrendal monastery , a since 1966 monastery of Trappist monks in Olsker, Allinge-Sandvig , on the Danish Baltic Sea island of Bornholm .
history
Six monks from the Belgian Trappist Abbey of Achel founded the Myrendal Monastery ("Ant Valley") on the island of Bornholm ( Krogholmsvej 18 in Olsker) in 1966 with reform intentions . In 2002, it became an independent priory . The founding bishop was the Jesuit Hans Ludvig Martensen , Bishop of Copenhagen . The monks secure their livelihood through bookbinding . The existence of the monastery seems to be endangered by the decline in membership and aging, because the statistics from 2018 only show two people.
