Trappist Abbey of Gedono

The Trappist Abbey of Gedono has been an Indonesian monastery in Salatiga , Java (island) , Archdiocese of Semarang , since 1987 .

history

The Italian Trappist convent Vitorchiano founded the Gedono ( Pertapaan Bunda Permersatu ) monastery on the island of Java on the Merbabu volcano in 1987 , which was elevated to a priory in 1994 and an abbey in 2000 (superior, prioress and abbess: Martha Driscoll ). The community attracted so many vocations that it was able to found a daughter monastery as early as 2012.
