The Roman Catholic Diocese of Macau ( lat. : Dioecesis Macaonensis , Chinese :天主教澳門教區) is in the People's Republic of China Located Roman Catholic diocese based in Macau .

history

The diocese of Macau was on January 23, 1576 by Pope Gregory XIII. built with the papal bull Super Specula Militantis Ecclesiae from cessions of territory of the diocese of Malacca . In 1588 the diocese of Macau gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Funai and in 1659 to establish the Apostolic Vicariate of Nanking . Further assignments of territory took place on September 9, 1659 to establish the Apostolic Vicariate Cochinchina and the Apostolic Vicariate Tonking . In 1841 the Apostolic Prefecture of Hong Kong was founded , in 1848 the Apostolic Vicariate of Guangdong-Guangxi and in 1940 the Diocese of Dili from cedings of the diocese.
