Grottaferrata Monastery was an Italian Trappist monastery in Grottaferrata near Rome from 1898 to 1957 .

history

The founding of the monastery of Lyon-Vaise , the monastery of San Vito near Turin , was moved to Grottaferrata in 1898, where the Trappist community, which had started out from the monastery of Mont des Cats and looked after the Calixtus catacomb , made a house available. In 1927 the priory was elevated to an abbey . In 1957 Grottaferrata was given up and the community relocated to the newly founded Vitorchiano Monastery .

Blessed Maria Gabriella Sagheddu was a nun in Grottaferrata. The monastery should not be confused with the monastery of Santa Maria di Grottaferrata .
