The Santa Rita Trappist Convent has been an American monastery since 1972 in Sonoita (Arizona) , Santa Cruz County (Arizona) , Diocese of Tucson .
history
The Trappist Abbey of Wrentham , the first Cistercian abbey in the United States , founded Santa Rita Abbey (after Rita von Cascia ) in 1972 as a second daughter monastery 50 km south of Tucson at 1500 meters , which was promoted to a priory in 1978 .
