Traudi Beierlein
Gertrud "Traudi" Beierlein (born September 27, 1941 in Graz ) is a German swimmer and Olympic participant. The 1.71 m tall and 58 kg heavy athlete started for the Darmstadt swimming and water sports club .
In 1964 she became German champion in the 100 m freestyle .
She started over the same route at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo , but was eliminated in the run-up. Her time of 1: 05.4 minutes brought her 31st place among 44 starters in the overall ranking. The Olympic victory went to Australian Dawn Fraser , who was almost six seconds faster with 59.5 seconds. She had more success as a member of the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay , which came in 6th in 4: 15.0 minutes. For a medal, the team (consisting of Martina Grunert , Traudi Beierlein, Rita Schumacher and Heidi Pechstein ) should have been 3 seconds faster.
Traudi Beierlein works as a freelance artist today.
