Traugott Wilhelm Gevers

Traugott Wilhelm Gevers (born April 23, 1900 in New Hanover , Natal , † 1991 ) was a South African geologist .

Gevers studied geology in Cape Town and Munich, where he received his doctorate in 1926 ( The Muschelkalk on the northwestern edge of the Bohemian Massif ). He worked as a geologist in Namibia for the Geological Survey of South Africa and was later a professor at the University of Witwatersrand .

Gevers published in particular on the geology of Namibia.

In 1958 he received the Leopold von Buch badge . He has been the namesake of Mount Gevers in Antarctica since 1967
