Trebellianus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Trebellianus was one of the so-called thirty tyrants in the Historia Augusta and allegedly anti-emperor of Gallienus . Like many other usurpers in the time of the imperial crisis of the 3rd century , it is not considered historical.

Trebellianus is said to have been proclaimed emperor under the sole rule of Gallienus (260-268) in Isauria in southern Asia Minor, but was defeated and killed by Gallienus. All information is apparently fictitious. Coins that the usurper is said to have minted have not yet been found.

Trebellianus is mentioned in the Historia Augusta only in Eutrop . Today it is believed that Trebellianus either did not exist or was not a usurper. A mix-up with Regalianus cannot be ruled out.
