Origin and history

The Treeing Tennessee Brindle is a breed of hunting dog that can be traced back to various brindle dogs from the southern United States, particularly from the southern Appalachians and the Ozarks . In the early 1960s , Rev. Earl Phillips was collecting information on local brindle hound strokes ( cur dogs ) used to hunt raccoons and other small game animals. Various efforts have been made to preserve the various strokes of the cur dogs , but at the time no one cared about brindle curs . Phillips founded the Treeing Tennessee Brindle Breeders' Association on March 21, 1967 together with others interested in these dogs . The AKC added the breed to its Foundation Stock Service in 1995 with a view to possible recognition . Since January 1, 2010, dogs of this breed can also participate in companion dog events of the AKC.
