The Trefftz building on the campus of the Technical University of Dresden at Zelleschen Weg 16 in Dresden- Räcknitz is the lecture hall building for the mathematics and physics departments. In addition to two large lecture halls , the listed building also houses the Center for Information Services and High-Performance Computing (ZIH) .

Since 1994, the building erected in the 1950s has been named after Erich Trefftz , a professor for technical mechanics and applied mathematics who worked in the 1920s .

description

The Trefftz building is at the eastern end of the campus and flanks the Recknagel building (specializing in physics) at its southern end and the Willers building (specializing in mathematics) at its northern end. East of the Trefftz building, the new main building of the SLUB Dresden was built from 1999 to 2003 .

The architects Walter Henn and Heinrich Rettig based the design of the Trefftz building, built between 1953 and 1955, on the forms of the Barkhausen building , which was built by Karl Wilhelm Ochs from 1951 to 1954 . After several additions for the university data center, the Trefftz building was extensively renovated in 2008 and 2009, including a glass elevator.

The lecture hall building displayed a large astronomical clock on the north gable until its last extension, on which several dates can be read, including sunrise and sunset times and moon phases. This clock has been only a few meters away on the eastern front of the Willers building since 2007. It was also Friedrich Adolf Willers who made the calculations for the clock; the models of the dials were designed by his daughter Annemarie Willers .

A bridge resting on pairs of granite columns leads from the Trefftz building to the Willers building, which was created by Walter Henn, Karl Wilhelm Ochs and Heinrich Rettig.

On the square in front of the northern gable stands the larger than life sculpture Man and Wave by Karl Lüdecke .
