Access to the former fuel storage

The former Konzendorf fuel storage facility is located next to the Düren district of Konzendorf in North Rhine-Westphalia .

This former fuel depot of the Belgian armed forces is located to the west of Konzendorf , which was released on July 1, 1995 according to the BICC conversion report IV (Düsseldorf 2000).

The former fuel depot is located on the spoil dump of the former open-cast lignite mine " Alfred Tagebau " (approx. 1918 to 1935). About two thirds of the heap was used by the Belgian troops as a fuel storage facility for petrol and diesel from 1952 until it was withdrawn in 1995 . The approximately 90,000 m² fenced property is owned by the federal government and has not been used since 1995.

Until the end of the 1960s there were huge lattice watchtowers with searchlights at all four corners of the heap .
