Trent McClenahan (born February 4, 1985 in Chipping Norton , New South Wales ) is an Australian football player . The defender has played in England with West Ham United , the Milton Keynes Dons and Hereford United and took in 2008 with the Australian Olympic team at the Olympic tournament in China in part.

Club career

Trent McClenahan was a student at Westfields Sports High School in Fairfield West before he left Australia at the age of 16 and signed a contract with West Ham United after convincing tests. He made his league debut in August 2004 against Crewe Alexandra. After two more competitive match appearances for West Ham, he was in March 2005, initially until the end of season to Milton Keynes Dons awarded and then also for the entire 2005/06 season the club from Milton Keynes left. From West Ham he was released from his contract after this loan deal and McClenahan found Hereford United, a new club in League Two .

McClenahan managed to fight for a regular place on the right-back position and came to 30 missions in his first season at Hereford. At the beginning of the 2007/08 season he lost his regular place several times because of his participation in international games with the Australian Olympic team, but was again permanently in the team from December and took third place with the club at the end of the season for promotion to Football League One was enough. The Australian let a new contract offer from Hereford pass unanswered and has therefore been without a club since July 2008. In mid-September 2008 he signed a one-year contract with the Scottish club Hamilton Academical .

National team

McClenahan was vice-captain of the Australian U-20 national team at the Junior World Cup 2005 in the Netherlands, where he was used in all three Australian games in the preliminary round. Subsequently, he was regularly used in the Australian Olympic selection , the so-called Olyroos , and finally appointed to the squad for the 2008 Olympic Games. There he was used in the preliminary round in all three group games, in two of them he was on the starting line-up.
