Tretjakowskaja ( Russian Третьяко́вская ( pronunciation ? / I ), scientific transliteration Tretʹjakovskaja ) is the name of a subway station of the Moscow Metro . It is a combined stop on the Kalushsko-Rishskaya and the Kalininskaya lines , for the latter it is currently the western terminus. The subway station went into operation on January 3, 1971, but only the southern platform hall was built and the station was originally called Novokuznetskaya . It was not until January 25, 1986, when the Kalininskaya line was being extended to the west, that the northern hall was also completed, and the now combined station was given its current name. general description

Tretyakovskaya South Platform
North platform

The Tretyakovskaya station, 46 meters underground and consisting of two separate platform halls, is located in the southern center of Moscow , in the middle of the historic village of Samoskvorechye . The subway station was named after the art collector Pawel Tretyakov , whose picture gallery , founded in 1867, is located a few minutes' walk from the subway station.

Similar to Moscow's Kitai-Gorod and Kaschirskaja subway stations, Tretyakovskaya is also a single subway station in terms of construction, which is served by two lines. The two platform halls, which are separate from one another but are laid out in parallel and on the same level, handle trains on both lines that are departing in one direction or arriving from one direction. Trains from the Kalushsko-Rishskaya line to the north and trains from the Kalininskaya line to the east stop at the southern platform, while trains from the Kalushsko-Rishskaya line to the south stop at the northern platform and trains from the Kalininskaya line come from the east. For the latter, there are sidings and sweeping systems west of the station, and there have been plans for years to extend the Kalininskaya line further west, so that Tretyakovskaya would no longer be the end of the line.

By handling the trains of two lines on the same platform, passengers have the opportunity to transfer to another line without changing the platform. There is also a possibility to change from Tretyakovskaya to the Novokuznetskaya station on the Samoskvorezkaya line . There is access to this from both the south and north platforms of Tretyakovskaya. The transition between the two platform halls of Tretyakovskaya is located in the middle of the two platforms; there are several flights of stairs leading there. The exits with escalators are located at the western end of the two platform halls and lead to a common mezzanine level, from which one reaches the exit via an underpass.

architecture

In contrast to Kitai-Gorod , the nearest northern station on the Kalushsko-Rishskaya line, the two platforms at Tretyakovskaya were not built at the same time, rather the north platform was added later, 15 years later than the south platform. For this reason, the architecture of the two halls differs noticeably from one another. The south hall, which was completed in 1971, was carried out in a very functional and unadorned manner, as was typical for the time: it is essentially a standard construction common to the Moscow Metro with two parallel rows of wide, square pylons , which are covered with white marble from the Ural region are disguised. The hall is lit by a continuous row of lights that are hidden behind the cornice above the pylons.

In contrast to this, the north platform hall, dating from 1986, has decorative elements that are based directly on the culturally significant location of the subway station (near the historic Moscow city center and the Tretyakov Gallery ). The pylons, which are also white marble, merge directly into an arched vault, the floor consists of gray and red granite slabs . The walls above the tracks are clad with pink marble and decorated with bronze reliefs, which depict several famous Russian painters.
