The Tretstein waterfall (also Trettstein waterfall ) is a waterfall of the Eidenbach near Dittlofsroda , a district of Wartmannsroth in the southernmost part of the Bavarian Rhön . Dittlofsroda is about two kilometers to the northeast, the Eidenbacherhof about one kilometer to the north and the municipality of Gräfendorf about 1.5 kilometers to the southwest. The waterfall overcomes about three meters in free fall and hits sloping rock. The total height including the inclined section and smaller preliminary steps directly above the drop edge is about six meters. The waterfall is designated as a natural monument .

A short gorge- like incision of the Eidenbach begins with the waterfall in the red sequence of the Upper Buntsandstein . The stream also forms several smaller waterfalls and flows a few hundred meters later into the Waizenbach and this shortly afterwards at Gräfendorf from the north into the Franconian Saale . In 2010 the Gräfendorf youth fire brigade renovated the paths to the waterfall. A handrail was used to secure about a hundred meters of the path, several wooden walkways were replaced and natural steps were incorporated into the slope.

The Bavarian State Office for the Environment designated the gorge as a valuable geotope (geotope number: 677R007) and classified the geoscientific value of the waterfall as significant and rare for the region .

The name Trettstein is phonetically polished from the dialect "Trätsch stone" with the meaning Plätscherstein .
