Triphenylborane

In chemistry, triarylboranes (BAr 3 ) belong to the group of organoboron compounds. The most important triarylborane is triphenylborane (BPh 3 ).

Manufacturing

Triphenylborane can be obtained by reacting boron trifluoride diethyl etherate with phenylmagnesium bromide :

properties

Triarylboranes are more stable to oxidation than trialkylboranes . Triarylboranes react with sodium or potassium to form colored radical anions.

In contrast to diborane (B 2 H 6 ), the triarylboranes are in monomeric form because dimerization via two-electron three-center bonds is prevented for steric reasons.
