Trimble is a manufacturer of geodetic measuring instruments and was founded in 1978 with its headquarters in Sunnyvale . The company claims to be one of the leading providers of high-precision GNSS technology . It develops and combines positioning technology, cellular communication and software.

There are production facilities in Sweden , France and Germany , among others . A central part of the corporate philosophy is to offer the surveying experts not only individual components, but also compatible and integrated systems. Trimble employed over 11,000 people in more than 35 countries worldwide in 2018.

history

Trimble Navigation was founded in 1978 by Charles Trimble (* 1941) and two Hewlett-Packard partners .

In 2001 the company Spectra Precision in Jena , which emerged from Carl Zeiss AG , was acquired. In July 2011 Trimble took over the Finnish company Tekla and in January 2012 Plancal AG in Switzerland. In April 2012, Trimble bought the CAD software SketchUp from Google .

On October 1, 2016, the company changed its business from Trimble Navigation Limited to Trimble Inc.
