Trist was a funeral doom and depressive black metal band founded in 2003 .

history

Trist was founded in 2003 by Jan Šincl as a one-man project. Šincl invited different musicians to various recordings as live or studio support. In particular, he often had guests play the drums. Šincl describes the further history of the project as uninteresting. Between 2003 and 2007 he made several demos , one split - EP with Holomráz and five studio albums and stepped twice live on. With the decision to end the project, Šincl published the remaining recordings. Some of the albums such as Zrcadlení melancholie and Sebevražední andělé were reissued by different record companies in the following years.

In 2009, Šincl reactivated Trist and appeared live again. In October 2011 Trist appeared with heretoir, rot and hypotermia in Essen. Tobias Gerber called it a “very poignant” performance for Metal Hammer , in which “the audience was told the whole world of pain in sound”. The concert to which Kim "()" Carlsson from Lifelover and Hypothermia , Trist supported, remained Trist's last appearance. Šincl stopped activity with the project again. Only further publications of material already recorded followed up to 2013.

style

The majority of Trist's releases are attributed to Depressive Black Metal. Only Slunce v snovém kraji, rozplývání, echa ... is subordinated to the neoclassical . The atmosphere of the music is considered to be an expression of “despair and longing for death”. Most of the songs are considered to be particularly long. Many of the albums consist of two to four tracks, despite a total playing length of more than 40 minutes.

The music is described as reduced. The project is limited to "simple but highly emotional melodies". The singing is considered to be heavily distorted and “bloodcurdling screeching singing ”. The guitar playing is described as fuzzy and atmospheric. According to Meredith Schmiedeskamp from Rock Hard , the "repetitive [...] mid-tempo riffs " could hardly be distinguished. The guitar and vocals are in the foreground, while the rhythm instruments are reduced in the background.
