The Triumphal Arch in Chisinau , actually Holy Arch ( rum. : Portile Sfinte , and Arcul de Triumf or Arcul Biruintei ), is a memorial in the district Buiucani , the historic center of the Moldovan capital.

The triumphal arch is located in the Parcul Catedralei on Bulevardul Ștefan cel Mare și Sfînt opposite the building of the National Assembly. It lies on an axis to the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Lord , so it forms a front gate to the church building.

The triumphal arch was built in 1840 under the direction of the architect Luca Zauşkevici on the occasion of the Russian victory in the Russo-Turkish War of 1828/1829 . In Moscow a triumphal arch had been erected for the occasion already 1836th In the triumphal arch there is a bell weighing 6.4 tons, which was cast from captured Turkish cannons. The structure has a total height of 13 meters.

During the Soviet period , marble slabs were installed with texts in Russian and Moldovan : the decision of the High Commander-in-Chief of the Red Army to liberate Chișinău from the German-Romanian occupation ( Operation Jassy-Kishinew ), decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR to create of the Moldovan SSR , the names of bearers of the title Hero of the Soviet Union who made merit in battles of World War II on Moldovan territory, as well as the names of the Moldovan-born heroes of the Soviet Union.

In 1973 the triumphal arch was repaired.
