Trnavské automobilové závody, štátny podnik (Slovak for Trnavaer Automobil-Werke, state enterprise; abbreviated TAZ ; until 1990 Trnavské automobilové závody, národný podnik to dt .: Trnavaer Automobil-Werke, national enterprise) is an automobile that emerged from the Škoda concern and part manufacturer in Trnava in Slovakia.
history
The origin lies in an iron smelter founded in 1917 . In 1934 the production of electrical household appliances (e.g. washing machines) and refrigeration technology started. Automobile production only began in 1964 with the relocation of parts from the manufacturers Praga and Tatra . Among other things, the gearboxes of the Škoda 1202 and the axles of the Praga V3S were manufactured.
The BAZ MNA prototype is based on the Škoda Favorit platform and was developed in the Bratislava plant ; it was intended to be the successor to the TAZ 1500.
In 1973, the first production processes of the Škoda 1203 van, which had been produced in the Vrchlabí plant since 1968 , were relocated to Trnava. From 1981 the production took place exclusively there. This van was called Škoda TAZ after the division of Czechoslovakia and only TAZ 1203 in the end. In 1993 it was replaced by the TAZ 1500.
After the reunification, TAZ also worked on a real successor model. Although there were prototypes, the project failed due to financing problems. Today the plant is called ZF Sachs Slovakia as a subsidiary of ZF Sachs .
