The dry grass ladybird ( Coccinula quatuordecimpustulata ) is a beetle from the ladybird family (Coccinellidae).
description
The beetles are three to four millimeters long. They have black wings with yellow spots. The spot on the back is kidney-shaped.
Occurrence
The species is distributed throughout Europe . It occurs mainly in Eastern Europe . The species is also represented in Asia Minor .
Way of life
The beetles can be seen between April and mid-September. Coccinula quatuordecimpustulata is considered a warm-loving type, preferably the dry habitat sites, especially dry grasslands and sandy areas with broom -Vegetation. Furthermore, the beetles appear on fields and edges of forests as well as in sunny clearcuts. The species occasionally occurs en masse.
The adults and larvae of the dry-grass ladybirds predatorily feed on various aphids . These include the green plum aphid ( Brachycaudus cardui ), the common pear leaf sucker , Diuraphis noxia , Schizaphis graminum and Sitobion avenae .

etymology
The name addition quatuordecimpustulata is derived from Latin and means "fourteen spots". It refers to the total of fourteen yellow spots on the wings.
