Trøgstad Church

Church in Trøgstad

Around 1250 Trøgstad got a church in Skjønstad , which was dedicated to St. Olav . The consecration day was January 15th, but the year is unknown. From 1723 to 1844 the church was privately owned. In 1904/1905 the church was changed significantly by extending the nave after the western wall was torn down by adding a brick extension. The galleries in the choir and on the north side have been removed, as has the anteroom, where in olden times men laid down their weapons before visiting the church (weapons room). The baptismal font comes from the late Romanesque period and is made of soapstone . The altarpiece was made in Copenhagen around 1712. The pulpit was donated between 1737 and 1739, probably also built in Copenhagen . The oldest bell is from 1598.

Trøgstad Fort

In Trøgstad there are also remains of the former Trøgstad fort, which the then Norwegian Defense Minister Hans Georg Jacob Stang had built around 1900 as a frontier fortification against Sweden. The fort was razed after the Karlstad comparison of 1905. In 1907 the fort was rebuilt as part of the Glomma line, a new border fortification, which initially included the Greåker Fort and Ravneberg Fort, and later also the Trøgstad Fort and the Høytop Fort . The new building was started in 1912 and completed in 1917. It is a strong rock fort with casemates blasted deep into the mountain and revolving gun turrets. It had the purpose of securing access to Kristiania against attacks from the east with the other forts . The forts were partially ready and occupied by April 1940. However, contrary to the line of defense, the German attack came from the west via Fossum (now part of the Bærum municipality ). Therefore it was given up without a fight. In 1945 the Germans left a lot of war material there. The Americans later stored ammunition there. A radar monitoring station was built there in the 1950s. In 1995, the Ministry of Defense ended all activities in Trøgstad Fort.

population

Between 1951 and 2005 the population fluctuated between 4000 and 5000 inhabitants. As of 2008, the population was consistently just over 5000 inhabitants.
