Trojan (Slavic mythology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Trojan is a mythical figure among the Russians and Southern Slavs who symbolizes the Roman emperor Trajan . In the course of the conquest of Dacia in 107, Trajan pushed the border of the Roman Empire up to the Carpathian Mountains and thus probably came into the perception of the Slavs.

Among the southern Slavs, Trojan appears in a number of folk tales (cf. Vuk Karadžić's "Srpske narodne pripovijetke"). In Russia he is in Choždenije Bogorodicy po mukamъ , in Slovo i otkrovenije sv. apostolъ and Igor song mentioned.
