ecology

Occurrence

The silver lining catfish lives in the rivers and streams of tropical South America in the Amazon basin , near the borders of Peru and Brazil .

The waters in which the armored catfish occur have the following water values:

  • a pH of 6.5 to 7.5
  • a dH value of 2 ° to 16 °
  • a KH value of 1 ° to 12 °
  • and a temperature of 22 ° C to 26 ° C.

nutrition

The silver lining catfish is omnivorous . In the aquarium hobby mosquito larvae , water fleas , cyclops , brine shrimp , enchytrae , tubifex , and pilot worms are used for feeding .

Aquaristics

The animals are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least eight if they are kept in an aquarium . However, care should be taken not to add fish that are too large or predatory. A soft, not sharp-edged substrate is important (sand is ideal), as otherwise the animals can injure their barbels. It can be kept in tanks from 100 l. It is also highly recommended to give the fish enough space to hide (rock caves, roots, plants, stones) in order to reproduce their natural habitat. A constant temperature and a light current are also important.
