The Troja Bridge (Czech. Trojský most ) is a combined tram and tram bridge over the Vltava in Prague . It leads from Partisanenstrasse ( Partyzánská ) in the Holleschowitz district to Neumoldausstrasse ( Nová Povltavská ) and Trojastrasse ( Trojská ) in the Troja district . The Troy Bridge is a new landmark in contemporary architecture in Prague, serving local traffic and replacing the original Troy Tram Bridge that was in use from 1981 to 2013. At the northern bridgehead it connects to the Prague city ring.

The bridge was inaugurated on October 4, 2014, and the handover to traffic took place two days later. There are ideas about naming the Troja Bridge after the late President Václav Havel .

Design competition

In 2005 the Prague City Council announced an architectural competition.

The first prize (700,000 CZK ) was awarded in autumn 2006 to the team Mott MacDonald CZ, sro ( Ing.Jiří Petrák, Ing.Ladislav Šašek) and Roman Koucký Architekturbüro, sro (Dr. Ing.arch. Roman Koucký, Ing.akad. arch. Libor Kábrt) awarded.

The second prize was not awarded.

The third prize (450,000 CZK) was awarded twice, first to Prof. Ing. Jiří Stráský (architectural office Stráský, Hustý and Partners) and secondly to Ing. Arch. David Titz, Ing.arch. Zbyněk Svoboda, Ing.Ladislav Huryta and Martin Matůšů (ARCHicon).

In the second round, five projects (prize money 2,600,000 CZK) were awarded by the eleven members of the jury. The authors were: Roman Gale, Ing.arch. Michal Palaščák, Bc. Libor Dašek (AGP office), Ing. Arch. Martin Rösler and Ing. Vít Hlaváček.

The executed design comes from Mott MacDonald CZ Prague and the architectural office Roman Koucký Prague. The structural design was carried out by Mott MacDonald CZ, sro Prague, the construction work by the Czech company Metrostav , Prague.

The production of the entire steel structure was in the hands of Metrostav as and Bilfinger MCE Slaný sro

Originally, the Troja Bridge was to be completed and opened at the same time as the Blanka tunnel complex . However, this was only opened on September 19, 2015.

The implementation of the bridge construction plans caused political controversy after the originally calculated price had risen. According to the tender documents, the bridge should cost around CZK 400 million, after the conclusion of the contract with the Metrostav company , additional requirements led to an increase in the price to CZK 720 million. In September 2014 an arbitration tribunal had to decide which costs of the Metrostav company should be recognized.

Static and dynamic load tests were carried out from August 20 to 23, 2014, during which 24 fully loaded trucks and 4 trams drove over the bridge at the same time.

description

In the competition, the design of a network arch bridge in composite construction with two arches and a suspended deck slab underneath was selected. The two welded steel arches are inclined to each other and unite in the apex area to form a box girder. The construction was carried out as a prestressed concrete bridge , with the prestressed carriageway slab made of in-situ concrete resting on prestressed precast cross members. These are attached to the steel arched beams via a network system of 200 pre-tensioned hangers. The entire steel structure weighs approx. 2500 t. The bridge is about 262 m long, the span of the main span is 200.4 m. The total height of the bridge is around 34 meters above the Vltava fairway. The abutments and pillars are located underground on bored piles along the bank area. There are no pillars in the area of the river. On the Troja side there is a pre-stressed concrete foreland structure of 40 m length that was made of in-situ concrete.

The bridge has two lanes in each direction of travel, the two tram tracks are located separately on the middle structure, walkways and cycle paths are arranged on both sides. At the northern bridgehead in Troy, a crossing-free overpass over the junction of the Prague inner ring (Městský okruh) was carried out. This is where the connection to the Blanka tunnel and the Povltavská ulicá (city ring) takes place. A riverside cycle path along the Vltava on the Troy side runs under the bridge.

Critics consider the two lanes in each direction to be oversized and criticize the wide railway underpass on the Holešovice side of the bridge.
