Metrostav is a Czech construction company based in Prague . It is the largest construction company in the Czech Republic and the second largest in Central and Southeastern Europe.

history

The company was founded on January 1, 1971 as an offshoot of the state-owned company Vodní stavby . The task was to build the Prague Metro , from which the name of the company is derived ("Metrobau"). On May 9, 1974, the first line of the Prague Metro went into operation. In 1988 the legal form was changed to a state company.

In 1991, Metrostav was converted into a joint stock company with a total of 4459 employees. After initially narrowly specializing in the construction of the subway, activities were expanded to include other projects in the construction industry. Various subsidiaries have been founded since 1991, and the privatization process of the company was successfully completed in 2000. On January 1st, 2010, the Metrostav Group was founded with Metrostav as as the parent company.

In 2011 the subsidiary Metrostav Deutschland GmbH was founded, in 2015 that of Metrostav Polska SA In 2013, the Austrian company Beton und Monierbau Tunneling GmbH (BeMo Tunneling) was taken over by Alpine Holding . In 2016, the share of activities abroad in total sales rose to 30%.

In 2018, the Metrostav Group was the largest construction company in the Czech Republic for the ninth time. Sales increased by 12.5% ​​to CZK 35.092 billion (EUR 1.36 billion). Almost three fifths of sales were generated by the parent company Metrostav in the Czech Republic, the remaining two fifths with projects abroad, mainly in Slovakia , Germany , Poland and Scandinavia as well as in the United Kingdom , the USA and Canada .
