Trolval Island is a 300 m long and narrow island west of the Antarctic Peninsula . In the Léonie Islands group , it lies between the northern tip of Anchorage Island and Lagoon Island .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2004. It is named after the "devil whale " from the book The Whale by the British zoologist Leonard Harrison Matthews (1901–1986) from 1968.
