The Tromsøysund Tunnel is an undersea road tunnel the road number 8 in the Norwegian city of Tromso in Fylke Troms og Finnmark . The tunnel runs under Tromsøysund and connects the districts of Tomasjorda on the mainland and Breivika on the island of Tromsøya . The tunnel has two parallel tubes, of which the T1 tube is 3386 meters and the T2 tube is 3500 meters long. At its deepest point, the tunnel is 102 meters below sea level. The greatest gradient is 8.2%. In 1994 the tunnel was opened to relieve traffic over the Tromsøysund Bridge.

The Tromsøysund tunnel was the first and for 16 years the only undersea tunnel with two tunnels in Norway before the Knappetunnel in Bergen and the Bjørvikatunnel in Oslo opened in 2010 . The Tromsøysund tunnel has 15 cross connections between the two tubes. It is not permitted for pedestrians.

In 2010 the tunnel got illuminated speed indicators because a lot of exhaust fumes are deposited on the signs, making them difficult to read. Two years later, automatic flash boxes were also added.
