The Monte Palace Tropical Garden (Portuguese: Jardim Tropical Monte Palace ) is a botanical garden in Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira . On an area of ​​70,000 m² it shows plants and other things. a. also art objects, tile pictures and minerals.

history

The site was bought by the English consul Charles Murray in the 18th century and came into the possession of Alfredo Guilherme Rodrigues in 1897, who built a luxurious residence there that was later converted into a hotel, the Monte Palace Hotel . After Rodrigues' death, the hotel came into the possession of a credit institute, which in 1987 sold it to the entrepreneur José Berardo . He passed the garden on to a foundation that operates it today.
