Monte Palace Tropical Garden
The Monte Palace Tropical Garden (Portuguese: Jardim Tropical Monte Palace ) is a botanical garden in Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira . On an area of 70,000 m² it shows plants and other things. a. also art objects, tile pictures and minerals.
The park can be reached from Funchal with the Funchal – Monte cable car .
history
The site was bought by the English consul Charles Murray in the 18th century and came into the possession of Alfredo Guilherme Rodrigues in 1897, who built a luxurious residence there that was later converted into a hotel, the Monte Palace Hotel . After Rodrigues' death, the hotel came into the possession of a credit institute, which in 1987 sold it to the entrepreneur José Berardo . He passed the garden on to a foundation that operates it today.

The museum in the upper area of the garden shows modern sculptures from Zimbabwe as well as minerals, especially Druze .
Azulejos
Numerous azulejos (tile images on ceramic tiles ) are exhibited in the garden . Historical costumes and events, animal and plant motifs and ornaments are depicted on them. A row depicts Portuguese history . Each azulejo depicts the respective ruler, his reign and other outstanding personalities and / or historical events from that time.
