Gernot Graessner

Gernot Graeßner (born March 1, 1945 ) is a German professor for lifelong learning , moderation and education / cultural management at the European Distance Learning University in Hamburg (Euro-FH).

Life

Graeßner studied political science , sociology and economics at the Universities of Marburg and Bonn (1966–1970) and received his doctorate from the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Bonn on the subject of “Germany and the National Socialists in the United States of America 1933–1939”.

He moved from political science to educational science through his first encounter with adult education in Wolfsburg. There he was a pedagogical assistant at the adult education center from 1972 to 1974.

1974/75 Graeßner was a research assistant at Saarland University (political science). From 1975 to 2010 he taught as Academic Director at the University of Bielefeld, initially as part of the teaching degree in "Social Sciences" (Faculty of Sociology) and from the late 1980s mainly in the field of adult and continuing education (then at the Faculty of Education). From 1985 he was also the rector's representative for scientific further education, as such a. a. Founder of the “Studying from 50” program. He initiated numerous continuing education programs at Bielefeld University, especially in the field of distance learning from the 1990s. Its special academic feature was the training of several hundred moderators at Bielefeld University in a three-semester training concept that developed into the Bielefeld model of moderation and led to an extensive network of graduates from this network in science, companies, public institutions and associations (NEMO - Network business moderation).

This training and networking concept was further developed through his involvement at the Euro-FH, Hamburg from 2010. From 2010 to 2015 he headed the course “Business Coaching and Change Management (MA)” in continuation of a long-term cooperation with Heidrun Strikker and Frank Strikker. This range of courses makes an innovative contribution to the academization, in particular of business coaching.

Since 2012 he has headed the “Master's Entry Program” at the Euro-FH, through which executives with professional experience can access a master’s degree after having passed an examination of equivalent competencies without having previously completed an undergraduate bachelor’s degree.

From 2014 to 2018, Graeßner headed the Business Education and Cultural Management BA course he designed, which combines in particular the connection of economic thinking with the design of culture and (further) education.

He has many years of continuing education experience at home and abroad, especially in the field of moderation and adult education . One focus of this commitment was the training of Polish students at the University of Toruń in particular in the 2000s in cooperation with Ewa Przybylska .

From 1988 to 1998 he was chairman of the working group for university adult education (now: German Society for Scientific Further Education and Distance Learning ). This association represents the interests of scientific further education, which is a specific field of activity of the universities. During his term of office u. a. the opening of the association for universities of applied sciences, the connection or establishment of working groups: Federal Working Group Scientific Further Education for Elderly - BAG WiWA - as well as the working group for distance learning at universities - AG-F as well as regional groups. The integration of academic further education from the structure of the GDR played a role in particular . Graeßner gave educational policy suggestions to strengthen scientific further education primarily through his involvement in the concerted further education campaign of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science.

He was a member of the advisory board of the Research Institute for Scientific Further Education at Bielefeld University and is a lecturer at Bielefeld University, Faculty of Education.

Graeßner is a member of the scientific advisory board of degefest (Association of the Congress and Seminar Industry) and EZUS (European Center for University Studies Ostwestfalen-Lippe).
