Gertrude Wildam
Gertrude Wildam (* unknown), mostly known as Trude Wildam in Austria , is a former Austrian table tennis player . Before the Second World War she was one of the strongest players in the world.
Wildam belonged to the Vindobona association. From 1924 to 1935 she won the Austrian championship ten times . She represented Austria seven times at world championships , the first time in 1926 and the last time in 1937. In 1929 she won silver in singles and doubles. In singles she lost the final against the Hungarian Mária Mednyánszky , in doubles she and Fanchette Flamm lost to the Germans Erika Metzger / Mona Rüster . In mixed she reached the semi-finals together with Alfred Liebster , which she had already reached in 1926 alongside Eduard Freudenheim . In 1930 she made it to the semi-finals again in singles and doubles (with Helly Reitzer).
At times, Wildam was ranked number 1 in the ITTF world rankings .
