Costocervical trunk

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In this anatomical drawing, the costocervical trunk is the delicate vessel that emerges from the powerful subclavian artery (lower left, cut off).

The costocervical trunk ( costocervical trunk ) is an artery (artery) that arises from the subclavian artery to the side of the internal thoracic artery (inner thoracic artery ). The vascular trunk with its branches supplies the intervertebral spaces I and II as well as the deep neck muscles .

Branches

The costocervical trunk is relatively short in humans and then divides into the deep cervical artery (deep cervical artery) and the suprema intercostal artery (uppermost intercostal artery) .

The deep cervical artery runs between the transverse processes of the 7th cervical vertebra (C7) and the first thoracic vertebra (Th1) to the deep neck muscles, which it supplies with oxygen-rich blood.

The arteria intercostalis suprema descends towards the neck of the first rib and divides there into two further branches: Arteria intercostalis posterior prima (first posterior intercostal artery ) and Arteria intercostalis posterior secunda (second posterior intercostal artery ). They supply the corresponding intercostal spaces. Both arteries form anastomoses within the intercostal spaces with the rami intercostales anteriores I and II (anterior intercostal branches I and II), which branch off from the internal thoracic artery (internal thoracic artery ).
