Truncus vagalis anterior
The anterior vagus trunk is a parasympathetic branch of the vagus nerve that arises from the esophageal plexus . Due to the rotation of the stomach during embryonic development , the left vagus nerve tends to move forwards (ventrally) and forms the anterior vagal trunk ( anterior: Latin for "front"). The anterior vagus trunk also contains fibers from the right vagus nerve, as it exchanges fibers to a large extent with the posterior vagus trunk , which mainly consists of fibers from the right vagus nerve. The truncus vagalis anterior runs together with the esophagus through the hiatus oesophageus (passage opening of the diaphragm for the esophagus), then comes to lie on the front of the stomach and forms the gastric plexus anterior there .
