Princess Tsahai Worq (born October 13, 1919 in Addis Ababa , † August 17, 1942 in Nekemte ) was the daughter of the Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie and a trained pediatric nurse.

Life

Tsahai was born as the third daughter of Haile Selassie and his wife Menen Asfaw . Her full name, Tsahai Worq, means golden sun . During Selassie's exile from 1936 onwards, she accompanied her father to numerous public appearances. During this time she finished her studies and on August 25, 1939, she was examined as a pediatric nurse. During the liberation of Ethiopia with the help of British troops, Tsahai accompanied the army hospitals as a nurse.

She married on April 26, 1942, Lieutenant General Abiye Abebe (1918–1974), who was governor of Wollega . However, she died a few months later in Nekemte, the capital of Wollega, of complications from her first pregnancy. The child did not survive either. Tsahai was buried in Addis Ababa, where Haile Selassie founded a war orphanage, which bore her name until his fall in 1974.

The Tsehai aircraft type was also named after Tsahai.
