Tschahār Bāgh (also Chahār Bāgh Avenue , Persian چهارباغ; literally four gardens ) is the main boulevard of the Iranian city of Isfahan with a length of 1650 meters.

investment

The Tschahār Bāgh is located approx. 535 m west of the main city square Meidān-e Emām and runs along a north-south axis across the Zāyandeh River through the city. All of the city's major west-east facing streets start from this boulevard. At the southern end of the boulevard is the Armenian Julfa district.

The name Tschahār Bāgh refers to a typical Persian garden shape , which consists of four areas divided cross-like by waterways or paths. Once upon a time, all royal palaces and gardens led to this boulevard. Open arcades gave a view of the gardens.

The complex consists of a main boulevard with a central promenade, which is flanked by four axially laid out gardens. A stepped canal ran through the middle of the promenade, which was replaced by flower beds and lanterns.

Even today, the Tschahār Bāgh with its many shops, hotels and some of the remaining palaces is an important meeting place in the city.

history

Depiction of the Tschāhār-Bāgh-Madreseh (beginning of the 19th century)

The boulevard was created as part of a major urban planning project that was carried out between 1596 and 1597 under Shah Abbas I. Between 1706 and 1714, the large madrasa complex Mādar-e Shāh (Mother of the Shah), also known as Tschahār Bāgh Madreseh, was built on the eastern side of the boulevard .

In the north there is now a park, once part of the royal garden with the Hascht-Behescht-Palast . Next to the park is the Bāzār-e Honar shopping mall with many gold shops. Behind it is the ornate Tschahār Bāgh Madreseh . Halfway up the boulevard meets the Si-o-se bridge (33 bridge) . The southern part of the boulevard is modern today.
