Charentsavan ( Armenian Չարենցավան ) is a city in the province of Kotayk in central Armenia . The city was founded as Lussawan in 1948 and named after the poet Yeghische Charenz in 1967 .
history
The city was founded on the initiative of the Soviet Union and took place in 1948 under the old name Lussawan . The new city was to serve as a housing estate for the workers of the Argel hydroelectric power station, which was completed in 1953 . After the completion of the power station, industrial companies, mainly in the mechanical engineering sector, settled in the city. In 1967 the city was renamed in honor of the poet Tscharenz.
