Tsoelike (pronounced tswɛdikɛ ) is a place in Qacha's Nek District in Lesotho . It is located in the southeast of the country. The name means "winding curve" and refers to the river of the same name, which flows into the Senqu about a kilometer northeast from the east .

geography

The place is around 1,830 meters above sea level on a plateau above the Senqu, which is called Orange from the border with South Africa . The construction of the Tsoelike Dam is planned near the place, which will damming up the water from Senqu and Tsoelike. The project is referred to as Phase III of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project .

history

In 1900, a mission station of the Société des missions évangéliques de Paris , run by locals, was opened (today a mission of the LECSA ).

Transport and other infrastructure

The place is connected by a side road to the A4 road, which connects Quthing with Qacha's Nek.

Tsoelike is home to the Roman Catholic St. Francis mission station with an attached high school and health station, a LECSA mission station and a larger retail store.
