The Tsolum River is a 40 km long river in the central east of Vancouver Island in the Canadian province of British Columbia .

River course

The Tsolum River rises west of Regan Lake at an altitude of about 580  m . The headwaters are located 23 km south of the city of Campbell River in the eastern foothills of the Vancouver Island Ranges . It flows mainly in a south-easterly direction through the plains. The east coast of the island runs about 7 km further east. Finally, the Tsolum River joins the northern edge of Courtenay with the much richer Puntledge River to form the Courtenay River . After another 3 km, this flows into Comox Harbor , an estuary on the east coast of Vancouver Island.

Hydrology

The Tsolum River drains an area of ​​251 km². The mean discharge is 10.6 m³ / s. The highest monthly outflows usually occur between November and January. July, August and September are the months with the lowest levels of runoff.
