The Courtenay River is a tributary of the Georgia Strait in central east Vancouver Island in the Canadian province of British Columbia . It is named after Captain George William Courtenay , a captain of the Pacific Squadron and later Vice Admiral in the British Royal Navy .
River course
The Courtenay River arises at the confluence of the Puntledge River and Tsolum River on the northern edge of the city of Courtenay . It flows 3 km in a south-southeast direction and finally flows into Comox Harbor , an estuary on the east coast of Vancouver Island. The British Columbia Highway 19A and the 5th Street cross the river. Lewis Park and Simms Millennium Park are on the left bank of the river . To the right of the estuary is Courtenay Marina Park and Courtenay Airfield. The mean discharge is 51.6 m³ / s.
