Johann Friedrich Engel
Johann Friedrich Engel (also John Fred Engel, born April 24, 1844 in Bernkastel on the Moselle, † March 2, 1921 in Munich ) was a German painter who also worked in the United States .
He came to the United States with his parents in 1852 at the age of eight and lived in Albany, New York State .
He received his first painting lessons from a French painter based in the United States.
He then returned to Germany and studied from 1861 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and from January 18, 1862 in the Classics of Classics at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich . After graduating, he returned to the United States and worked as a portrait and genre painter.
In 1873 he decided to move to his parents' country and settled in Munich. He painted rows of traditional Bavarian costumes and genre scenes. In 1910 he created three pictures with allegorical depictions of the seasons.
