The TuS Holtenau is a sports club in Kiel district Holtenau . It is the second largest association in the state capital Kiel, with 30 branches and 2,400 members. (Status: August 2016) The greatest sporting success in 1961 was the rise of the footballers to the Schleswig-Holstein amateur league , to which the club belonged for four seasons.

history

1909 to 1934

After the association was registered at the registry court on November 8, 1909, customs assistant Lucks took over the chairmanship. Gymnastics took place first in the “ Friedrichsschleuse ” restaurant , later in the halls of “ Ramms ” and the old “ armory ”. There was sport in the open air on the makeshift space at the Tonhof. Within the next few years the association had several hundred members. The successor of the first gymnastics teacher Gerstung was Karl Nettler. At that time, Rector Heinrich Haalck took over the chairmanship, as Lucks was transferred abroad. In 1912, the club joined the German Gymnastics Association and now regularly took part in events and competitions. On October 18, 1913, the 100th anniversary of the German gymnastics movement was celebrated with a parade through Holtenau . The outbreak of war interrupted the entire work of the association, which had around 200 members. Among the Holtenauers who fell in the war were a number of members and employees of the association, including the co-founder Wilhelm Dettmer.

After the end of the First World War and the beginning of the Weimar Republic in 1919, co-founder Ludwig Pommerening took over the chairmanship from Heinrich Haalck, who was retiring. The first meeting of all those interested in gymnastics took place on February 14, 1919. After the men's department resumed operations on February 28, 1919, all other departments followed on April 15, 1919. An agreement was concluded with the Marine Garrison Administration II on the use of the shooting range area as a makeshift sports field. On July 30, 1919, a sports and games department was founded, which by the end of the year already comprised 60 men and 21 boys. In 1921 the association had over 300 members. The gymnastic evenings took place in the club's " Hotel zur Hochbrücke ". The brackets for the horizontal bar were built into the parquet floor of the hall and the gymnastic rings hung from the ceiling . In 1922, Holtenau, previously part of the Eckernförde district, was incorporated as a suburb of the city of Kiel . However, the hoped-for improvements to the playing and gymnastics facilities did not materialize. In that year Holtenau had 3179 inhabitants. However, Holtenau received a sports field, which was found on the upper edge of the village. After the inflation was over in early 1924, the club life was able to develop further. The gymnasts were outstanding at this time. Due to a great development of the pre-gymnastics body and the club, a part-time gym teacher was hired for the first time. Max Brathuhn took over this with a monthly payment of 150.00 Reichsmarks .

A ban by the German Gymnastics Association dealt with the fact that DT teams were no longer allowed to play against teams of the football association. As a result, the Holtenau gymnastics club lost some footballers to the "real" football clubs. As a result, football in Holtenau almost came to a standstill. When Walter Schulz came to Holtenau as a teacher in 1928, he immediately made himself available to the association. The game of fistball received a new impetus. A little later, a hockey department was set up for only a short time, as was a fencing group, which also failed to prevail. Also in 1928 the canal pilot Ludwig Kelling became the new chairman. In 1930 handball also emerged more and more, back then as field handball . The table tennis players also appeared. Due to the existing "football ban", the association "Holtenauer Sportverein von 1931 eV" was founded in 1931. One of the co-founders of the "small HSV" was Paul Harste, who, when the HSV dissolved again in 1933, revived the football department at the Holtenau gymnastics club just a year later. The ban on German gymnastics was no longer in force at this point.

After the takeover of power in 1933, there was a uniform statute for all clubs and a club leader who had to be a member of the NSDAP was appointed. The board members were appointed by this leader. Party affiliation also played a role here. Fortunately, all of this happened within the club in a loyal way. There were major personnel difficulties and frequent changes in the management of the association due to professional assignments. In March 1934, to mark the 25th anniversary of the association, a gypsy festival with colorful costumes was celebrated in the club's premises. This festival was the prelude to numerous events, such as B. the Goetz hike, an advertising week for the German Gymnastics Association, a children's summer party or the women's advertising week. The children's Christmas party concluded on December 27th.

1935 to 1959

From 1935 the work of the association was severely restricted and hindered by the requirements of the National Socialists. After the resignation of the club leader Döring, a Nazi functionary, Oberturnwart Willi Winter, was installed in his place. In the autumn of 1935, the former chairman Kelling, who had already led the club from 1928 to 1933, became the new club leader. In the course of his work, after disputes with the division manager Hans Duit, the hockey department was dissolved. The 26th Foundation Festival could be celebrated in November 1935 with the entire cap of the air base command. In 1936 the children's department in the association had to be dissolved, which also resulted in staff cuts.

From 1936 a focus was placed on football in the club. Two teams as well as various youth and junior teams were formed. The championship could be won with the first student team in the district of Kiel. A number of club members took part in the 1938 gymnastics festival in Breslau . In March 1938, the last major stage gymnastics took place in cooperation with the Luftwaffensportverein and the Eintracht choir.

At the end of 1938 the gym was converted into a warehouse for war supplies. The entire gymnastics business was paralyzed. The hall in the “Hotel National” was converted into a cinema, which meant that it was no longer available to the association. The only advantage for the people of Holtenau was the elimination of the cumbersome way to Kiel. But with the Allied air raids, which soon increased, many a movie night was spoiled.

Despite all the difficulties caused by the Nazi regime, the association was able to assert itself quite well, so that extensive broad-based work was carried out almost until the outbreak of the Second World War on September 1, 1939. But, as in 1914, this was suddenly interrupted. Here the footballers were the big exception. The first team continued to play until 1942 in a round of points that was poorly set by the football circle. Until then the game had to be stopped due to drafts. Many of the active soldiers later fell at the front or were prisoners of war for many years.

In mid-1945, a small group of people came together in the " Cafe Günter " on Kanalstrasse, where they agreed to restart the association's work. On October 6, 1945, the re-establishment meeting took place in the waiting hall, today's Fördeblick. With almost 100 participants, the first decisions were made and a new board was elected. Emil Depser became the new chairman. In April 1946, the British military government submitted the application for a new establishment in German and English. In May the first senior football team was registered for point games. At the end of 1946 the association again had around 100 members. During the annual general meeting in 1947, Sepp Bühler was elected as the new chairman.

At the annual general meeting in 1948 there were again elections, from which Karl Bommes emerged as the new first chairman. A decision of the meeting held on January 20, 1948, was to rename the Turnverein Holtenau from 1909 eV to Turn- und Sportverein Holtenau from 1909 eV In the new name, the former clubs “the free gymnastics” and the “Holtenau sports club” should be symbolic be clarified. The club colors became green-white, a little later green-white-red. With the rebuilding of the gymnasium, the rebuilding of the gymnastics department was also successful, which quickly expanded to 26 rows with 365 participants.

The football department also expanded to include three active men's teams and four youth teams. The handball division had two men's, one women's and three youth teams. In 1949 TuS Holtenau had over 1000 members. One of the highlights of the year was the 1st Volksturntag on June 12, 1949 with 354 active participants. There was also a large relay race “Across Kiel” on June 26th. The first soccer team played a game against Holstein Kiel in front of around 1,200 spectators .

Thanks to the initiative of chairman Karl Bommes, the first construction phase of the seaside resort in Holtenau was inaugurated on July 15, 1952. However, the financial burden of running the bathing establishment was not manageable for the association, so that it had to be sold to the city in 1957. After the great collapse of the club, the footballers were able to show their first successes in 1951 with promotion to the district league. As a “reward” for this promotion, the soccer team was allowed to travel to the GDR and compete against the 1st Chemnitz team in front of 5,000 spectators. In 1952 the club tried to set up its own marching band, which, however, failed despite a generous donation from Heinrich Vosgerau to purchase the instruments.

On May 10, 1952, the footballers played against SV Friedrichsort for promotion to the regional league, but lost and remained in the district league for more years. In 1953 the German Gymnastics Festival with 442 clubs took place in Hamburg, where six victories for TuS Holtenau were recorded. In 1956, the club met Holstein Kiel again in the DFB Cup and lost this game after extra time with 1: 3. In 1959 the association celebrated its 50th anniversary.

1960 to 1980

In 1961, the footballers celebrated promotion to the amateur league Schleswig-Holstein, the then state league. A year later, the Prellballer North German champions. They achieved this success in 1965. In the same year the footballers had to relegate from the national league again.

In 1967 athletics championships were held for the first time on the new Hochbrücke sports complex. From 1970 to 1971 the new club house was built on Nixenweg.

In 1971 a Tanssport group was founded by the initiators Jürgen Schulz and Richard Kraus. Then the Brigitte Mäser dance school opens a dance school in the village. In 1972 the association had 1,400 members. In 1974 the footballers received a floodlight system.

After the Schilksee swimming pool was built in Kiel on the occasion of the 1972 Summer Olympics, a swimming department was founded at TuS Holtenau that had more than 300 members within a very short time. In 1975 a betting community of table tennis players with Holstein and Kronshagen was formed as "TTSG 75". In 1978 the branches of hiking , basketball , bowling and women's gymnastics are formed. The number of members exceeds 2000. Only a year later, the basketball players reach the state championship.

From 1981

In 1982 the footballers, who meanwhile only played district league, were promoted back to the district league. In 1983 the association had 2,300 members. In 1984 the women's team became national champions in the bounce ball. 14 years later, the ladies become North German champions. In 1999, on the 90th anniversary, the association had 3,000 members. The first team competes in the district classes in Kiel.

The volleyball women played in the Regionalliga Nord from 1993 to 2005 and became champions here in 2002.
