Cloth maker

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cloth maker was a proper craftsman who prepared the woven and milled woolen cloth , thus giving it a good appearance by roughing it, shearing it and pressing it. This also included the shawl hairdressers and shearers .

Since the 16th century, the cloth makers also included pressing and dyeing in addition to shearing, which the cloth shears were denied. This led to the fact that cloth shearers delivered coarse goods for clothes, while the cloth makers were allowed to give fine and better cloths to merchants.

Due to increasing industrialization, this craft lost its importance in the 19th century.
