Jamie Ashdown (born November 30, 1980 in Reading , England ) is a former English football goalkeeper who last played for Oxford United .

Player career

Reading

Jamie Ashdown was inducted into Reading FC Football Academy at the age of 11 . For the club from his hometown he played as a youth and professional player for a total of 13 years. At the age of 17, Ashdown was given his first professional contract in 1998. At the second division Reading, however, he could not initially prevail and played mainly in the reserve team, so that he was awarded for the first time in 2001. At his first loan club, however, he was just as unattended as in 2002 at the renowned Arsenal club . In the same year he was used in two games for AFC Bournemouth . In the 2003/04 season he finally achieved his breakthrough at the lower class Rushden & Diamonds .

Portsmouth

Thanks to his good performances for Reading and Rushden & Diamonds, Ashdown was signed by the English first division club Portsmouth FC in 2004 . Although Ashdown is regularly used by the "Pompeys", he is overshadowed by the English national goalkeeper David James . For the second division Norwich City , he played two games on loan in early 2006. With Portsmouth, Ashdown won his first professional title in 2008, the FA Cup .
