The Tucson Mountains are a small mountain range west of Tucson in the US state of Arizona . The mountains have a north-south extension of 35 km and an east-west extension of a little more than 20 km. The Tucson Mountains are just one of four notable ranges around the Tucson Valley . The others are the Santa Catalina Mountains , the Rincon Mountains, and the Santa Rita Mountains . The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is located on the western flank of the mountains. Much of the range is protected by Saguaro National Park and Tucson Mountain County Park . The highest point is the 1429 m high Wasson Peak .
